Art of the Americas

For thousands of years, civilizations thrived in the Americas. Their art and accomplishments rival those of ancient cultures in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. While these societies were (and still are) as varied as the regions they inhabit, the artwork produced does share some commonalities. Almost all of the indigenous work is abstraction. Images are stylized and simplified; colors are even and flat; forms are reduced to their basic geometric shapes; and pattern often reigns supreme.
